The last words Princess Diana told her butler Paul Burrell
Paul Burrell has opened up about the last moments he saw Princess Diana and the last words she spoke to him.
On Thursday night's episode of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!, Diana's former butler recalled the last words he said to her on the phone while she was in Paris.
"The last things she said to me, were on the phone," he explained. "She was in Paris and the very last words were, 'Promise me you will always be there.'
"I said, 'I promise I will always be there'."
He also got extremely emotional discussing the last time he saw Diana.
Being careful not to reveal the location where he was with Diana's body, the 59-year-old teared up as he explained to Jackie Gillies he pleaded for the princess to open her eyes.
"She didn't open her eyes and I said, 'Why did you leave me here? Why didn't you take me with you because my place is to look after you,'" he emotionally explained.
"I realised I had to take care of what she'd left behind here," Paul continued. "She couldn't do that and she left me to do that, so I had to take care of her world and the people in it."
He also opened up about his fears that as time goes on Diana 'will fade'.
"I'm beginning to forget what her voice sounded like and forget what she smelt like," he said crying. "I don't want to forget that."
Paul also spoke about his special relationship with Diana and that his 'love for her was very different from other people's'.
He then broke down, admitting for the longest time he wished 'she had taken [him]' too.
But, he eventually met the 'love of [his] life' and believes it was Diana who created that happy ending for him.
He married his partner Graham Cooper last year.
Paul then went on to reveal the last words Diana said to him while on the phone to him when she was in Paris.
