Grant Denyer's pregnant wife tears up during I'm A Celeb chat

Grant Denyer’s heavily pregnant wife, Chezzi Denyer, has spoken out about the candid alcohol confession he made while appearing on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!.

The mum-to-be opened up about her husband’s brave admission in the jungle on Studio 10 on Tuesday morning while chatting with hosts Sarah Harris and Tristan MacManus.

“I really liked it,” Chezzi said.

“It is something that we have spoken about a number of times, but I really felt the penny dropped when he was talking to Mel [Buttle] during that conversation,” she added.

While Chezzi praised her husband and the other celebs for their open and honest conversations she did admit to feeling ‘a little bit nervous’ about what Grant might share next.

Grant’s alcohol confession

Grant, who has been open about his struggles with pain killer addiction in the past, decided to come clean about his drinking habits to his fellow campers — despite never having spoken about it to his best mate or even his wife.

“I’ve only just realised from coming in here that I drink to lessen anxiety,” the former Family Feud host said during a campfire chat.

“I didn’t realise I had [anxiety] until I saw the pattern of fear coming into here [the jungle],” he added.

Grant, 43, went on to explain how the anticipation of his ‘new gig’ on I’m A Celeb, whether he’d manage to win challenges, fit in or ‘be funny’ for the whole stint, saw him turn to alcohol to calm his nerves.

“I just started going like this [mimes throwing back drinks] and I was like, ohh!” he said.

Missing the kids

Elsewhere in the Studio 10 chat, Chezzi got teary after watching a clip of an emotional Grant talking about missing their two daughters, Sailor and Scout.

“That’s so hard to watch,” Chezzi said while wiping her eyes.

“That lip tremble got to me as I could tell he was trying to hold it in,” she added.

It’s not the first time ex-Sunrise weather presenter Grant has shed a tear on I’m A Celeb. He broke down while remembering the moment he was forced to quit motorsport after a harrowing accident in 2017.

While competing in the Lake Mountain sprint in the Australian Rally Championships, he crashed into a tree at 165km an hour. Grant emerged with just a broken coccyx but at the time he thought he was a ‘goner’.

“I thought that was it,” he told his fellow contestants, adding that at that point he knew he had to step away from racing for the sake of his young family.

Almost a decade earlier, Grant shattered his lower vertebrae in a monster truck accident which saw him unable to walk for months while he recovered. He later revealed that the endone and morphine he was using for the pain led to episodes of psychosis and almost ruined his relationship with Chezzi.
