He burst onto the music scene in 2009 as a member of Crooked Eye but Ily has made a name for himself in recent years with a string of solo successful albums and singles.
The artist admits his latest album, Two Degrees, sounds quite a bit different to what we've come to expect from his previous music - but with six-ARIA nominations, it's safe to say he's got the seal of approval from his peers.
"It's always nice getting appreciated for the sh*t you put your blood, sweat and tears into," he tells Be about the nominations.
"But I don't care about awards as opposed to the people who have supported my music forever and are still riding with me. But it's still nice."
The 30-year-old says there's one thing on his bucket list he'd like to tick off: working with legendary pop singer Sia.
"I'd love to work with Sia," he revealed. "The music she makes is amazing."
So Sia - if you're reading, listen up!
Illy says he now has the luxury of working with loads of talented Aussie musos thanks to his rise in fame.
"I obviously have more friends in the music industry now than when I did so I can hit friends up," he said when asked how a collaboration comes about.
"Now I have a bit more of a profile, I'm not getting told to p*ss off as much!"
