Iconic Crayola Color Back From Retirement for the First Time in History

A retired Crayola crayon color with a cult following is coming back—and it's bringing a rainbow of other long-lost shades with it.

After being discontinued in 2017, Dandelion is returning in 2025 following an "outpouring of fan requests," according to a press release.

And that's not all: Blizzard Blue, Magic Mint and Mulberry (all retired in 2003) and Orange Red, Violet Blue, Lemon Yellow and Raw Umber (retired in 1990) are also heading back to crayon boxes this year.

In a nod to the company's first eight crayon box launched in 1903, the color collection will be available as a Limited Edition Retired Colors 8-Count Crayon Pack.

Since it was removed from Crayola's lineup, fans of Dandelion have congregated on the internet to mourn its loss—and to collect any existing examples of the crayon.

TikTok user LaKenzo (known as the "Dandelion Crayon Girl" or "Dandelion Crayon Lady") even went viral for videos showing off her extensive collection of Dandelion crayons and Dandelion crayon-themed merch.

"As long as I've even been able to color, the Dandelion crayon has always been my absolute favorite," she said in one 2023 clip, adding, "So when I heard about the retirement, I created a shrine, and then made a TikTok over a year ago showing my shrine, and then I briefly had a P.O. box open and got sent over 400 of them."

Like-minded fans shared similar sentiments in the comments at the time, with one person calling Dandelion the "perfect shade for anything yellow" and another noting it was the ideal "Winnie the Pooh" color.

In addition to the Retired Colors crayons, Crayola is also launching limited edition colored pencils and markers—along with other products such as activity kits and themed coloring books—as part of the line, which will be available throughout 2025 at major national retailers.
