In a post-lockdown world, the line between activewear and everyday style has become increasingly blurred, particularly as many of us continue to work from home. Our once seemingly separate wardrobes have slowly meshed into one, but with Aussie women choosing comfort over everything else, how can you elevate these pieces into wearable fashion as life goes back to normal?
With STAX. surely but slowly taking over the majority of space in our wardrobes since the pandemic began, we thought it best to reach out to none other than co-owner, and effortless style icon, Matilda Robertson to show us exactly how to take our humble activewear straight into street style.
Start with the basics:
If you don’t already own pieces from the Best Black range, this is your sign to invest immediately.
“They’re made from nylon spandex, which is literally the most flattering, buttery soft fabric,” says Matilda. During our visit, she is also sporting the Best Black tights and is already a walking example of just how easy it is to stay comfortable whilst being effortlessly on trend.
Whilst black might seem like an obvious move, a classic crop, shorts or jacket are the perfect starting point for layering your looks, especially in the cold Sydney winter.
“I think the key to activewear styling is layering.”
Not quite ready to give up wearing PJs to work? There’s a simple fix to that! An oversized blazer brings a whole look together, whilst nailing a corporate aesthetic. Starting with a basic tights and top set from the STAX. Secondleft collection, the addition of either this, or an oversized structured white shirt instantly nails effortless office chic.
Finish with a classic set of heels, a statement bag and accessories and you not only get to spend the day in your comfiest pieces, you look ready for anything the work day will throw at you.
Dinner with the girls:
Work is done and dusted for the day, but is there anything worse than feeling stuffy on a night out? Casual silhouettes and stretchy, forgiving fabrics have well and truly taken over as the new comfy alternative when hitting the town.
“I feel like if you layer and add accessories, you can get away with activewear anywhere.” says Matilda of our third look. The blazer strikes again except this time, we’ve switched long leggings out for soft, cotton shorts paired with knee-high boots - not a traditional pairing but when layered all together speaks in perfect harmony.
Another trend worth celebrating is of course the high-neck body tank, which can easily be tucked into full-length black tights to create the illusion of a catsuit. Finished with a warm coat, gold accessories and a stand-out bag, you’re ready to take on the night.
