“Home Improvement” star Zachery Ty Bryan arrested for third time in 12 months
Bryan was arrested in two separate instances in 2024 for alleged DUIs, and has also been arrested twice in the past on domestic violence charges.
Zachery Ty Bryan has begun the new year with another run-in with the law.
The former child star, known for playing Tim Allen's eldest son on the hit '90s sitcom Home Improvement, was arrested Wednesday in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and charged with second-degree domestic violence, authorities tell Entertainment Weekly. Sheriff's office records indicate that Bryan, 43, was booked into Horry County jail Thursday, with his bail set at $10,000.
Representatives for Bryan didn't immediately respond to EW's request for comment Friday.
The arrest marks Bryan's third in the past 12 months. In October, he was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and driving without a valid license. Before that, he was arrested in February on a felony DUI charge and a misdemeanor contempt of court charge.
This isn't the first time Bryan has been arrested for alleged domestic violence either. In July 2023, the actor was booked on charges of felony assault, third-degree robbery, and assault. He pleaded guilty to felony assault in the fourth degree later that year, eventually serving seven days in jail and 36 months of supervised probation, according to PEOPLE.
Additionally, in October 2020, Bryan was arrested on a felony charge of strangulation and misdemeanor charges of assault and interfering with a police report. He pleaded guilty to two counts, menacing and assault in the fourth degree constituting domestic violence, the following February.

Bryan reflected on the 2020 incident in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2023. "We didn't even really get that physical," he said. "We got really loud. We were screaming and because we were in a townhome that had [thin walls], everybody could hear… At the end of the day, [the police] throw a bunch of counts at you because they ultimately want you to plead to something."

Also speaking to THR, Bryan's erstwhile TV dad Allen said of his legal troubles, "I don't know what's going on with him." He added, "Zach is a great kid who has grown into a complex man. All you can do is step aside and let somebody go through their process. At a certain point, he deviated from the guy I know to somebody who is reacting to situations that I had nothing to do with and can't control. I don't know what happens when people get corrupted. You just don't know."
After Home Improvement, Bryan appeared on episodes of popular shows including ER, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville, and Veronica Mars, and also played a supporting role in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Aside from seven credited appearances on the 2022 superhero series The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!), Bryan has not acted in film or on TV since 2009.
