The star recently revealed he lost 12kg.

Home and Away's James Stewart has shared an emotional reason behind his recent body transformation, with the star revealing why it was so important to him.

The 47-year-old surprised fans in April when he showcased his 12kg weight loss with a gym selfie, with the star telling 7Life it was his daughter Scout that made him want to overhaul his health.

James revealed that during the Covid lockdowns, he found himself enjoying heartier meals throughout the day, including bacon and eggs for breakfast, pasta for lunch and pizza for dinner.

Eventually, he decided he had to make a change for Scout, telling the website, "Most of it came from the idea that I couldn’t tell Scout what to do, I just had to show her."

"If I was going to say, ‘Watch what you eat, watch what you drink and try to get outdoors every day’, then I had to start doing it," he added. "Then the benefits started happening, and once you see a little benefit, then you just want more and that’s what happened."

He added that having health-conscious friends on the Home and Away set, like Matt Evans, Ethan Brown and Ada Nicodemou, it was easier to stay on track.

James previously told the Daily Telegraph that the hardest part about the transformation was the food.

"No one wants to hear it, but most of the work is done in the kitchen and at the bar," he explained, revealing he went two months without alcohol. "Because everyone doesn’t mind doing a little bit of exercise – it doesn’t matter what it is. The hard part is the food."

Taking to Instagram earlier in the year, James shared that he was sitting at 100kg and is now down to 88kg, adding, "I was sluggish… wore baggy shirts and didn’t feel great… the thing that got to me the most is I couldn’t keep up with my kid… now she has trouble keepin up with me (sic)!"

He continued, "To all of you tryin to get in shape I’m not gunna sugar coat it… instead of beers and burgers grab a protein shake and a salad... then just put your trainers on and go train (sic)! Sounds simple… but it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, and I’ve done it twice."

James explained that the first time he transformed his body, he did it with celebrity trainers, but this time he did it on his own.

"As fit as I am physically, it’s my mental fitness that is my favourite benefit. I feel good about myself. A better man, a better husband, a better father."
