Home and Away's season final divides fans: 'Very disappointed'

Home and Away finished with a bang on Monday night, with the supersized season final marking the last episode for the year. While promos had teased a fiery end to Tane Parata (Ethan Browne) and Felicity Newman’s (Jacqui Purvis) wedding, some fans weren't happy with the cliffhanger.

The biggest storyline from the episode revolved around whether Felicity was going to turn up to the wedding before being convinced by her best friend Eden Fowler (Stephanie Panozzo). The pair are blissfully unaware that a suspicious person has tampered with the brakes in their vehicle, but the episode finished before anything serious happened.

It looks like the car crash, possibly involving Justin Morgan (James Stewart) and Leah Patterson (Ada Nicodemou), will take place in the season return. The latest promo shows a terrified Felicity trapped inside a burning vehicle as she screams for Tane to help her.

The promo intercuts with a scene showing main cast members enjoying time on the beach when a forlorn Tane arrives by himself sans wedding ring. Felicity is nowhere to be seen — hinting that she doesn’t survive the crash.

Fans were quick to take to social media, with many airing their ‘disappointment’ with the underwhelming triple episode.

“Wouldn’t really call it a ‘Season Finale’. I love the show, but was extremely disappointed with the ending…was just like a normal episode ending for the week,” one irritated fan wrote.

“We didn’t see much at all really! The whole thing ended abruptly and went to previews for next year. I expected that we would see the accident scenes and Flick in the burning car before the finale finished. That’s usually what happens (and that’s what a ‘cliffhanger’ is right?). But for me, the final episode last night was a bit of a letdown,” another added.

“I agree, normally I’m yelling at the TV for the season finale, last night I was like ‘Oh okay’,” a third wrote.

On the other hand, some fans said they ‘loved the ending’, and couldn’t wait for the return episode in January 2023.

“I thought it was a great ending. So much to look forward to next year. Why are people so picky?” a fan asked.

“I loved the ending, it keeps us guessing and wondering what will happen when it returns,” another chimed in.

“I personally don’t know what’s wrong with everyone — it was the usual end of year finale — no more, no less — it still keeps everyone guessing till next year which is what it is supposed to do,” a third commented.
