Hoda Kotb Reveals Favorite Moment From Last Day on 'Today': 'It Reminds Me of Everything That's Ahead'

It was an emotional send-off for Hoda Kotb on her last episode of Today—with one moment standing out as particularly memorable for the anchor.

Following the broadcast on Friday, Jan. 10, Kotb opened up to Parade about her favorite thing that happened during the show, and it involved a very special—and very green—guest.

"I think it may be Kermit singing 'Rainbow Connection,' because it reminds me of everything that's ahead," Kotb said, referring to the part of the episode where Kermit the Frog appeared to serenade her.

"It reminds me of home," she continued, before being briefly interrupted by her daughter Hope, 5.

"So probably that," Kotb added, "and I think when Simone [Biles] and Maria [Shriver] came out, and just looking in Savannah [Guthrie]'s eyes, I mean it's all...I feel like I have a blender of emotions going on, like a tornado, and I'm trying to hold on to every little last moment."

Kermit's send-off came near the end of the 8 a.m. hour, when Kotb was joined by Hope and her 7-year-old daughter Haley on the Today couch.

"We have one final guest this hour who really wanted to wish you well on your next adventure," Guthrie said.

"I would say he's an icon," she added. "A legend among legends...everyone knows and loves him...in fact, Hoda, you sing his most famous song every morning and every night to your girls. So I want to invite our next guest to come out and and sing it for you. Are you ready?"

That's when Kermit popped out from behind the couch.

"Hi-ho, Hoda! Hi-ho everybody, how are you? It's me, Kermit the Frog," the Muppet greeted everyone.

Kermit went on to say that his "favorite thing" about Hoda is "her smile."

"It really lights up a room, doesn't it?" he asked, with Guthrie confirming, "It really does, Kermit."

"Hoda, you truly do make every day as beautiful as a rainbow," Kermit told Kotb before launching into "The Rainbow Connection."

Kotb wiped away tears throughout the song and sang along at times. Near the end of the song, her colleagues—including Guthrie, Al Roker, and Carson Daly—joined in.

"That was extraordinary. I want to say thank you for that. I love you, I love that song, I love everything about it," Kotb said when the tune was over.
