Hilary Swank, 48, gives birth to twins: 'Wasn't easy'

Hilary Swank has given birth to twins, a boy and a girl, with the 48-year-old sharing the exciting news on Instagram this Easter Sunday.

"It wasn’t easy. But boy (and girl!) was it worth it," she wrote. "Happy Easter! Posting from pure Heaven."

The star held both her babies in her arms as she looked out at the sunset over the water.

Hilary shares the twins with her husband of four years, Philip Schneider, a 'social venture entrepreneur', with the pair experiencing parenthood for the first time together.

Many of Hilary's famous friends shared their congratulations on her post, with Viola Davis commenting, "Aaaaahhhh!!!!! Congratulations."

"Welcome home angels," Mariska Hargitay added.

"God bless honey This is the most extraordinary journey ever, so happy for you all," Sharon Stone wrote.

"Congratulations Momma!! You did it, Hilary!" one follower shared.

"Congratulations!!! Love this post! Soak up every min! It truly flies by," another fan added. "I heard that all the time it made me mad folks said it so much..now mine is 24 and 26 and I'd give anything to go back. It does go too fast."

"So happy and thrilled for you!" a third said. "You're gonna be an awesome mum!"

Hilary spoke to Extra last year about waiting to have children until she was in her late 40s, telling them, "I was having a career and not having the right relationship until... four years ago, and all the elements needed to come together and be right."

She added, "It’s just something I thought about even as a young girl. It’s something that was on my mind, so it’s nice to be here and just be pregnant."

The Million Dollar Baby star first shared the news last October on Good Morning America, telling the hosts, "I'm gonna be a mom! And not just of one, but of two. It's so nice to be able to talk about it and share it."
