Here's What Reportedly Led To Jennifer Lopez And Ben Affleck's Divorce
Jennifer Lopez only recently filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, but as Entertainment Tonight reports, the split was "a long time coming."
The singer officially filed to end their marriage on Tuesday, the same day they had their big Georgia wedding ceremony two years ago, capping months of rumors and speculation about their marriage.
A source tells ET that before the filing, "Ben and Jen had been miserable in their marriage for months."
"They both felt frustrated in their relationship," the insider continued, claiming Ben and Jen had allegedly realized the early days of their romance "was more of an infatuation" for both of them.
"The honeymoon phase was very quick for them," a insider told ET in a different report. "Their differences came out pretty early on in the relationship after they got married, and they were arguing."
One of these alleged differences, the source said, was "how public J.Lo was about their life" compared to Ben. "[It] drove a wedge between them. Their relationship was like 'opposites attract' until it wasn't."
Ben and Jennifer originally dated and got engaged in the early 2000s before calling things off in 2004. They reunited in 2021 in a move that seems to have been initiated by Ben.
As a result, J.Lo has reportedly been left feeling "upset" and "somewhat duped" amid the split.
The insider said Ben "still has love for her," too. He just "couldn't handle everything that came with being married to her."
The differences in their approaches to fame were exposed in J.Lo's documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, released in February 2024.
In the film, Ben talked about wanting to keep their relationship more private after things "crumbled" under the weight of media pressure the first time around.
"Getting back together, I said, 'Listen, one of the things I don't want is a relationship on social media,'" Ben recalled. But he also said he was trying to learn how to compromise. "I sort of realized it's not a fair thing to ask. It's sort of like you're gonna marry a boat captain and you go, 'Well, I don't like the water.' We're just two people with kind of different approaches trying to learn to compromise."
