Here's Why Jelly Roll Isn't at the 2024 People's Choice Country Awards

The country crooner is up for seven awards — but he has a show in Boston on Thursday night

The second annual People's Choice Country Awards is one of the genre's most star-studded nights of the year, but rising superstar Jelly Roll is not in Nashville to take home some gold.

The 39-year-old, born Jason DeFord, is forgoing the red carpet to hit the road for his Beautifully Broken tour. Thursday, Sept. 26 Jelly is in Boston, Massachusetts for a sold-out show at TD Garden.

The "Son of a Sinner" singer is up for some of the show's most coveted awards, including people's artist of 2024, best male artist, the social country star Award, and song of 2024.

Collaborator MGK was in attendance to accept the award for best crossover for their hit "Lonely Road," which interpolates John Denver's "Country Roads."

"Jelly, I love you. We went from 10 years ago hating each other to elevating each other," MGK said. "Comparison is the thief of joy. There is enough room on this couch for everybody. We found camaraderie in the chaos."

MGK is referring to their decade-old beef that bubbled when Jelly was a rapper.

Jelly won big at the CMT Awards in April, taking home the trophies for performance of the year, male video of the year, and video of the year. He's set to appear at the upcoming Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

The 2024 PCCAs are airing live on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT across NBC and Peacock from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.
