Heartbreak High cast on the ‘unexpected’ reaction to season one

Netflix’s Heartbreak High cast sat down with Yahoo Lifestyle to chat about season 2, fan interactions and behind-the-scenes moments.

- What was it like seeing that insane fan reaction to season 1?

- Well, do you want to take the mic?

- No, you go.

- I think we all had very little expectations for our first like, proper thing. We didn't really know what to expect because being Australia, like, you never know how things are going to be received. And the market's quite different here. So seeing something that like, somewhat monopolized the market, in a way, was really cool, was really cool and unexpected, I think, for us.

- I think it's just been so special. Like, we really believed in this show. And we all worked so hard at it. And I think we all viewed it as like, a really fantastic opportunity. But you never can kind of predict that that sort of response is going to occur or that you're going to sort of get the interaction with fans that we've been having lately. So it's just been a really wonderful surprise. And yeah, I just feel very grateful for the whole experience.

- I third that.

- When we were making it, we didn't know what it was going to be. And making this season, as well-- like, watching season 1 really helped us-- really informed us of like, the show we were making this time.

- I think it's interesting, as well, like, you finish the show. And you think you've made something good. And you can feel proud of it. But you just never really know how it's going to connect to an audience or how well it will do. And I guess I had faith that, yeah, it would be successful, to some extent, and it would be received well. But then to see the way that people really kind of grabbed onto it and kind of wouldn't let go and really-- like, really obsessed over it in different ways-- that's definitely something I hadn't experienced. So yeah-- very exciting.
