Gayle King asks “It Ends With Us” star if he's 'team Blake or team Justin' live on air amid ongoing legal drama

Brandon Sklenar asked audiences to focus on "why we made the movie in the first place" instead of director-star Justin Baldoni and producer-actress Blake Lively's legal battle.

Nothing ends — including the conversation surrounding Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni's ongoing legal battle — as far as Gayle King is concerned.

During a recent interview with 1923 star and It Ends With Us supporting actor Brandon Sklenar, the CBS Mornings broadcaster asked the performer how he feels about the development, which first saw producer-actress Lively accuse director-star Baldoni of sexual harassment and launching a smear campaign, while Baldoni responded with a countersuit alleging defamation and extortion.

"I just want people to remember why we made the movie in the first place and what it stands for, just keeping the focus on that. That movie meant so much to me," Sklenar said, referencing the plot of the adaptation of Colleen Hoover's novel, which follows a woman, Lily Bloom (Lively), who works to escape an abusive relationship. "I have someone very close to me in my life who's gone through what Lily is going through, for a long time. I've been on the front lines helping her navigate that space, so that movie meant a lot to me, and it means a lot to her, this person in my life. It was one of the reasons that me doing that film gave her this strength to change her life."

The 34-year-old continued, adding that "it means a lot to" him, and that "it's unfortunate that things get taken away from what the ethos of what that thing is, and it gets convoluted," stressing that he wants to remind audiences not to lose sight of the film's core message.

King, 70, pressed on, asking him, "Are you team Blake or team Justin?" after he finished his answer.

Sklenar laughed as he replied, "I'm Team It Ends With Us."

In August 2024, Sklenar previously released a statement addressing the situation.

"Colleen and the women of this cast stand for hope, perseverance, and for women choosing a better life for themselves," the actor wrote. "Vilifying the women who put so much of their heart and soul into making this film because they believe so strongly in its message seems counterproductive and detracts from what this film is about. It is, in fact, the opposite of the point."

Continued Sklenar: "What may or may not have happened behind the scenes does not and hopefully should not detract from what our intentions were in making this film."

He also labeled the project a "harsh reality check for the men who need to get their s--- together and take responsibility for themselves and their actions," while later imploring: "All I ask is that before you spread hate on the internet, ask yourself who it's helping. Ask yourself if your opinions are based in any fact. Or if you simply want to be a part of something. Let's be a part of something better together. A part of a new story being written for women and all people everywhere."
