Harrison Ford’s 4-Ingredient Sandwich Is His Chef Son’s Favorite Dish
It's a new take on a classic.

We’d just like to put it out there that if someone isn’t making a celebrity sandwich cookbook, they should. Between Stephen Colbert’s Colbert Questionert (with the first question being, “What’s the best sandwich?”), celebrities writing about their favorite sandwiches in books, and even celeb-led restaurants with sandwiches on the menu, every A-lister has their go-to ‘wich. We’re on a mission to learn them all.
The latest celebrity-approved sandwich to hit our radar comes from one of America’s most beloved actors: Harrison Ford.
Whether you’re sucked into binge-watching Season 2 of “Shrinking” on Apple TV or excited for Harrison's upcoming performance as Red Hulk in Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World,” Ford seems to be everywhere right now—and we’re here for it.
So what is fueling the actor to keep him in tip-top shape for all of these appearances (besides CGI, of course)? Admittedly, “it’s really boring,” he told Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show a few years back. “I eat vegetables and fish.”
Before he changed his diet, however, Ford was known for his easy grilled cheese sandwich that even his professional chef son, Ben, couldn’t get enough of.
Harrison Ford's Favorite Sandwich
Ford's sandwich is not your typical grilled cheese. Instead, his version uses two outside-the-box ingredients that may sound strange but make the sandwich what it is.
“He would make this grilled cheese sandwich for me on whole wheat with just really good sharp Cheddar, and tomato and Worcestershire sauce of all things,” Ben told Mashed.
Before you make a face, think about it. Grilled cheese is traditionally served with tomato soup (unless you’re Stanley Tucci), so adding tomato to the sandwich itself provides that same slightly sweet flavor and acidity without the need to dunk it in piping-hot soup. And a little douse of Worcestershire sauce will provide an extra savory flavor, so you won’t have to worry about the juicy tomato lending too much of its sweetness to the sandwich.
It’s an incredibly simple upgrade, but it just might make the best grilled cheese you’ve ever had—at least Ben thinks so. “This is my memory dish that I go back to," he said. "It’s not his best dish [but] I love it and I’m nostalgic for it. I just want to put this thing on a menu somewhere."
Since it's not on a menu, you're going to have to make it at home. Luckily, you probably have the two additional ingredients in your kitchen already—especially if you, like us, have been looking for an excuse to use the bottle of Worcestershire you bought to try Adele’s potato chip hack.
Now, everyone say "thank you" to Harrison Ford for bringing us Indiana Jones, Han Solo, and this grilled cheese recipe.
