'It sucked': The Voice's Chris Sebastian on living in famous brother Guy's shadow
Guy Sebastian’s younger brother Chris has opened up about how living in his famous sibling’s shadow has ‘sucked’ — particularly because both men are in the music biz.
“I’ve been doing it [music] a long time and I’ve tried to prove myself as much as I can and for the most part I’ve always been the brother and that’s kind of sucked. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t,” he told news.com.
A talented singer in his own right, Chris has been growing his music career over many years and is currently a grand finalist on The Voice — the same reality TV show that features his brother Guy as a coach.
The father-of-one credits the Channel Nine singing competition for giving him a sense of ‘identity’ as an artist, away from his multi-award-winning brother’s successes.
But that’s not to say that Chris isn’t incredibly proud of Guy’s achievements, telling the publication that he’s ‘so proud and so honoured’ that his older brother has done so well.
Chris also admitted that, prior to appearing on The Voice, he’d become disillusioned with performing other people’s songs — he recently toured with electro band Peking Duk — and was considering scrapping his dreams of making it as a solo artist.
Whether or not Chris beats out fellow contestants Siala, Johnny and Stellar to take out the top spot in Sunday’s Grand Finale, he just hopes that he’s done enough to catch the eye of Aussie music execs.
On Wednesday, Chris put out a callout on his Instagram page asking fans to get behind him.
“The grand finale is this Sunday night!!! And I need your vote to win this. If you would like to see me take it out pleeeeeease vote for me,” he wrote.
