The old saying goes “never meet your heroes,” but the insinuation is usually regarding them inevitably letting you down, not you bursting into tears with excitement.
Unfortunately for a young Guy Fieri fan, the latter is exactly what happened when she met the Food Network personality.
In a video that has gone viral since it was published last month, TikTok user madithemartin could be seen at an outdoor event with a text overlay that read “that moment when you meet your hero and start bawling.”
Initially, it was unclear who the TikTok user, whose name on the platform is Madi, was walking up to, as only a hand stuck out to shake hers could be seen, but the camera quickly panned right, revealing Fieri smiling widely.
The Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives star seemed confused by her reaction and jokingly asked if his fly was down. Madi then put her hands up to her face in visible emotion as Fieri reached out and gave her a comforting hug. The two posed for a photo as an onlooker laughed while Madi burst into tears. Internet commenters also found the interaction hilarious, responding to the video with equal parts jealousy and bemusement.
“I was not expecting the camera to pan over to the flavortown king himself 😂😂,” wrote one commenter as another agreed, stating, “HES THE LAST PERSON I EXPECTED TO SEE WHEN YOU PANNED OVER 😭.”
One person chimed in to note that “he seemed so genuinely surprised and concerned that you were crying over him 😭,” and others were on the same page, writing how they noticed “The way he held your hand.”
