“Grey's Anatomy” Star Kevin McKidd Announces the Death of His Father: 'Grateful for the Years of Love and Laughter'

"Thank you for making mum so happy for the 56 years you both had together," McKidd shared in an emotional tribute on social media

Kevin McKidd is mourning the loss of his father Neil.

The Grey’s Anatomy star, 51, shared an emotional tribute to his late dad on social media on Oct. 24, alongside several pictures of him over the years.

“Heartbroken today but grateful for the years of love and laughter we all had together,” he wrote. “Thank you for making mum so happy for the 56 years you both had together. Love you dad, always.”

The post included a snapshot of his father smiling for the camera, a black and white photo of his parents together and his dad sitting in a garden. The final picture showed McKidd wearing a kilt alongside Neil and his mother Kathleen.

McKidd’s Grey’s Anatomy costars shared their condolences in the comment section.

“Thoughts and prayers for you and your whole family,” Jason George shared.

Anthony Hill added, “We love you Kev 🙏🏾❤️”

Two months before his death, McKidd celebrated his father’s birthday on social media, writing, “This guy… happy birthday dad!”

Back in 2021, the actor also shared a sweet video of his parents dancing together.

“MAM and DAD ! Everyone behold my lovely mam and dad. This is what it’s all about at the end of the day #Elgin #Scottishparents video by my brother, Steve , love you Stevie xxx”

In 2009, McKidd opened up about the support he received from his parents after deciding to become an actor in an interview with The Scotsman.

"I started acting when I was very young and realized pretty quickly that it was what I wanted to do,” he shared at the time. “No one else in my family is an actor, in fact I'm the first one to be involved in the arts. But Mum and Dad were very supportive, even if they didn't understand what it was."
