'Greedy' Couple Insists 90% of Guests Attend 'Sham' Second Destination Wedding at $7,000 Resort to Cover Room Cost
"Make this your honeymoon, don’t put the cost on the guests," a frustrated wedding guest wrote on Reddit
A wedding guest is "so angry" at a bride and groom for having a second wedding.
A woman expressed her frustration over the nuptials in a post on Reddit's "Wedding Shaming" forum. Last year, her significant other's brother had a "cute" courthouse wedding. Now, he's planning an expensive destination wedding in Cancun.
The woman argued that the courthouse wedding "should have been the end of it." She believes the second wedding is actually just a ruse for the bride and groom to divert their honeymoon expenses to their guests.
The newlyweds said "90% of their guests must attend," and the Redditor speculates this is because "their room is free if they get the minimum number of guests."
"Make this your freakin' honeymoon, don’t put the cost on the guests," she wrote.

Although the resort is all-inclusive, its cost is out of the wedding guest's budget.
"The cost of the resort for my SO (significant other) and I for the suggested blocked dates is $4,000!!!!!!" she said. "The minimum stay is three nights and it still adds up to $1,700!!!! Not to mention the flights."

The bride and groom are aware of the financial burden they've imposed, so they suggested on their wedding invitation for invitees to put multiple guests in a room "to save money." However, the resort caps two adult guests per room.
"Only two adults are allowed in a room and it’s saving no one money anyway, I think this is ABSURD to expect this of people," the Redditor wrote. "Let alone to suggest sharing rooms? They also included a wedding registry on their invitation. And the bridal shower. And the bachelor party. This is all AFTER THEY'RE ALREADY MARRIED."
"This is where it started to stress the s--- out of me and piss me off," she added.
It also "sucks" that her partner is his brother's best man because that's made him feel "obligated to go." When he told his mother that they're considering not attending, she started "freaking out."
"I feel like this sham second wedding is greedy and b------- and I don’t want to go," the woman wrote. "I have no idea what to do and it’s stressing me out!!! I’m so angry at them for putting us in this position and I resent them so much."

Redditors in the comments section agreed with the poster. Many users advised her to not attend the couple's "free vacation" and to instead send a gift.
"That’s more of a shakedown than an invitation," one person wrote in part.
" '90% of their guests must attend' — I'm sorry, what?" another user commented. "What will happen if they don't? Jail? Execution? Nobody gets to dictate what you MUST spend your money and vacation time on except you."
