'Gossip Girl' Shares Footage of the Moment She Was Bitten by a Bat During Live Concert

Taylor Momsen and her band The Pretty Reckless open for AC/DC at RCF Arena on May 25, 2024, in Reggio nell'Emilia, Italy.

An unusual onstage incident that occurred this week in Spain has resulted in Taylor Momsen embracing a new nickname.

The Gossip Girl alum, who played Jenny Humphrey on the hit CW drama, is currently touring internationally with her band, The Pretty Reckless, in support of AC/DC. The band was onstage in Seville when fans noticed something odd clinging to Momsen’s leg as she walked across the stage.

In video footage that the singer later shared on Instagram on Friday, May 31, she briefly glanced down but didn’t seem to notice the small mammal that was attached to her upper leg just below the hem of her dress. “You guys are pointing at something, and I don’t know what you’re saying,” she explained.

The How the Grinch Stole Christmas actress then took a closer look after walking away from the microphone. She whirled around to face the crowd and yelled, “Oh my god!” She then pointed at the bat while speaking into the microphone to request assistance. A few people gathered around her, seeming uncertain about what to do before they helped shake the edge of her dress to scare the creature away.

“It’s all right, and the bat’s fine,” she said once the bat had flown away. “He’s going to be my new friend.”

In her Instagram caption, Momsen, 30, admitted that while the bat was “cute,” it did bite her, “so rabies shots for the next two weeks 😖😖😖.” The video later provided a close-up view of the small, bloody puncture wounds that the bat’s teeth made on her leg.

Momsen, whose Gossip Girl character was known throughout the series’ six-season run as “Little J,” then revealed the new nickname that she’d received as a result of the incident.

“Thanks to all the staff at the hospital who dubbed me #batgirl after seeing it on the local news that morning…more footage to come…that’s one for the books!!!!” she wrote.

In a subsequent Instagram video showing more of Momsen’s reaction after she left the stage, she appeared to embrace the nickname by captioning the video “#BATGIRL Part 2 🦇🦇🦇.”

Many fans made jokes in the video’s comment section comparing Momsen with Ozzy Osbourne, who in 1982 bit off the head of a bat while performing onstage with Black Sabbath.

“Luckiest bat ever!” one fan joked. “Flew away saying, ‘thank god that wasn’t Ozzy!’ 😂.”

“Please tell me you named the bat Ozzy? 😂,” another fan commented.

“The new Ozzy Osbourne???🦇🦇🦇🦇😂😂😂🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹,” another fan suggested.

Others praised Momsen for keeping her cool onstage and providing fans with a wild rock ’n’ roll moment.

“That is top tier rock n roll 🦇,” one fan wrote.

“That's wild ...🦇 attack!!! VERY rock n roll !!!😆🤘🤘💯💯💯,” another fan agreed.

“I was there in La Cartuja, i'm sorry for you but from a purely Rock&Roll perspective...it was epic 😬🤟🎸,” an Instagram user declared.
