Feldman began by stating, "They're doing [the sequel]. Whether we're doing it or not is another story," with the other cast members voicing agreement.

"But I can tell you for sure, [Steven] Spielberg and Chris Columbus have a recipe and they're planning on something," he went on. "We wish them well, and if they come to us, we'll consider it at that time."

While Feldman confirmed that the original cast has not officially been asked to appear in the sequel at this time, Astin shared a story that seemed to hint at the possibility: "After [the news] came out, Steven Spielberg sent me a poster saying, 'I'm still a Goonie, how 'bout you?'"

Astin went on, saying of Spielberg, "He's wanted to make the sequel, and he's the sole reason it hasn't been made now because it hasn't been right. The fact that he is endorsing this next thing is why we know it's going to happen, and it's why it has every chance to be spectacular."

The Goonies came out in 1985, and both Spielberg and Columbus, who co-wrote the original, are returning as producers on the upcoming sequel film. There is no news yet on a potential cast, story or release date.
