  • Bill Farmer and Jason Marsden channeled their characters Goofy and Max as they reunited in a video from Disney titled "On the Road Again: A Goofy Movie 30th Anniversary"

  • The release of the 7-minute reunion video came as Disney also dropped Not Just a Goof, a documentary about the making of the 1995 animated cult classic

  • Both A Goofy Movie and Not Just a Goof are streaming now on Disney+

Bill Farmer and Jason Marsden are still serving up "Hi Dad soup" 30 years after the premiere of A Goofy Movie.

The actors — who voiced Goofy and his teenage son Max, respectively, in the 1995 cult classic — reunited in a video posted by Disney on Monday, April 7, titled "On the Road Again: A Goofy Movie 30th Anniversary," in which they reminisced about their time making the animated movie.

A Goofy Movie follows Goofy and Max on a cross-country camping trip while they simultaneously navigate both the open road and their ever-changing relationship as Max grows up. And while Goofy is looking to bond with his son after Max gets into trouble at school, the latter just wants to get to Los Angeles to see his favorite rock star in concert to impress his school crush, Roxanne.

In the sweet 7-minute reunion video, Marsden, 50, and Farmer, 72, approach a car set up just for them in a parking lot, with Marsden remarking excitedly, "It's from the movie!"

"Right out of the movie — ready to go camping and everything," agrees Farmer, referencing all the gear piled up on the hood of the bright yellow vehicle.

After piling in (with "dad" Farmer driving, of course) the guys chat about everything Goofy Movie, from Farmer's 38-year history as the voice of Goofy for Disney, to Marsden — also known for his roles in several '90s sitcoms like Step by Step and Full House, as well as the voice of Binx the cat in Hocus Pocus — still sounding almost the same as he did three decades ago.

Following a quick "Goofy laugh" tutorial from Farmer, he and Marsden reflect on their personal favorite scenes and songs from A Goofy Movie, and the importance of the film's messaging.

"Most people, when they're young, they identify with Max. Then later on, when they have kids, they identify with Goofy," says Farmer, who is dad in real life to 35-year-old son Austin, while Marsden has a 15-year-old son named Clark.

"I absolutely identify with Goofy. I'm always being silly and trying to make him laugh — he's not impressed with me at all," Marsden says. "As he's getting older, there's moments you share with your kid that are super precious, and I can see why Goofy would want to take Max on this father-son trip."

Near the end of the special, Marsden and Farmer clasp hands and sing along to arguably the most famous song in A Goofy Movie: "I2I," performed by the fictional rock star Powerline (Tevin Campbell) at the end of the film, when Goofy and Max finally make it to the concert and dance onstage.

"Every job, you don't how it's gonna affect people, where it's gonna go," Marsden says. "And to work on something like [A Goofy Movie] that has meant so much to people in ways I never expected, I never take that for granted. I'm very proud to be a Goof."

"I am so proud that people come up to me all the time and say, 'A Goofy Movie changed my life,' " Farmer shares. " 'I couldn't talk to my dad until that movie came out. It became our movie.' "

"That's what it meant to me," he continues, "and means to me today, even more so than when it came out in 1995. It's one of those rare films that has caught on and just continually grown."

"It's about relationships — you're my secondary son!" Farmer tells Marsden, who reciprocates with, "You're my secondary dad!"

A Goofy Movie debuted on April 7, 1995, grossing just $37.6 million against its $18 million in production costs. The release came five months after its originally intended release date, further illustrating it as a low-priority release among the rich Disney roster of the time. While it wasn't a commercial hit, love for the movie grew after its VHS release.

The film has gone on to become one of Disney's most beloved, particularly among the millennial crowd, for its deep story, quotable dialogue and voice talents that also include Kellie Martin, Pauly Shore, Wallace Shawn, Rob Paulsen and longtime Disney voice actor Jim Cummings.

Signer Campbell, 48, also appeared in A Goofy Movie as Powerline, providing the vocals for two of the soundtrack's most unforgettable hits: "Stand Out" and "I2I."

Not Just a Goof a new documentary that takes its title from a lyric in the film's opening song, "After Today," sung primarily by Max (Aaron Lohr, providing the character's singing voice) — looks back at the making of the animated film that wasn't always a Disney darling, but found its audience with time and a message with heart.

The documentary follows a young creative team tackling their first Disney feature, facing disappointment upon release, only for the film to gain a passionate following decades later. Through key interviews and rare archival footage, it explores the struggles, victories and studio dynamics that shaped what's arguably Disney's first cult classic.

In a trailer for Not Just a Goof, Kevin Lima, who directed A Goofy Movie, recalls what a leap of faith the project was from the start.

"I was a first-time director. I had a first-time head of story. I had a first-time lead editor. I thought we had the opportunity to make a John Hughes movie in animation," Lima shares, adding that they thought, "Let's make a movie that's about contemporary teenagers as opposed to what feature animation was doing, which was all talking animal movies and fairy tales."

Not Just a Goof and A Goofy Movie are both streaming now on Disney+.
