Golden Retriever Finds Funny Way to Play 'Fetch' While Mom Is Busy Exercising

A Golden Retriever found a funny way to keep himself entertained with a game of "fetch" while his mom is busy exercising, and it's a hoot.

On September 11, 2024, we meet Remi, a Golden Retriever who shared the funny way he entertains himself while his mom works out. Take a look!

On Instagram Remi (@remi_goldenadventures) shared a video of the funny pup and her life hack for when mom's busy exercising.

"New level unlocked Fetch," the text on the video reads. And in the clip, Remi figures out how to play fetch with herself while her mom is busy on the treadmill.

Remi's mom is running on the treadmill, and the smart Golden Retriever realizes that when she places her toy at the top of the treadmill while mom is running slightly to the side so it doesn't hit her mom, it will zoom to the end of the treadmill and fall off.

So that's what she does! She pretends the treadmill is throwing her toy, runs to the end of the treadmill to pick it back up, and then runs back to the front, and the fetch loop continues. While it's a smaller loop of playing fetch than when a person would throw the toy, it's still fun for Remi, and that's what matters.

"Best workout partner ever!" the video's caption reads. And in the comments of both Remi's and when it was shared on Dogs of Instagram, are full of people who think this is such a silly idea from the dog.

One wrote, "That’s one smart doggo."

Another shared, "All fun and games until you slip on it."

Someone else added, "Too smart."

Another explained, "You're a great workout partner."

One shared, "Greatest hack of all time."

Someone else wrote, "This guy is a genius. I have a lot to learn from him."

Another admitted, "My dog does this and I'm waiting for the day I trip."

Important Safety Reminders for Treadmill Use With Pets Around

While this video is adorable, we find it essential to remind fellow pet parents that we should not have them near our exercise equipment when it is in use. This is especially true for treadmills, which have been linked to some accidents when kids or pets get too close to the belt while it is in use.

In April 2021, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a warning by releasing a video that shows how quickly an accident can happen on a treadmill and why it's so dangerous for kids and pets.

The CPSC issued an urgent warning to users of a specific treadmill, similar to the one in the video with Remi, after the agency learned of 39 accidents—23 of those were with children and one involving a pet.

"As an exercise enthusiast, I know how important treadmills can be to the people who use them," Acting Chairman Robert Adler from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission wrote in a notice on May 5, 2021.

"But, I also know that those who use exercise equipment want to be sure that the only pain they might feel at the end of a workout is a sore muscle from their exertion, not a serious injury from a defective product."
