“Golden Bachelorette ”host Jesse Palmer reacts to Charles' heartbreaking story

The host also shares his thoughts on Guy's naked massage and that intense group date kickball game.

Each week during The Golden Bachelorette, host Jesse Palmer will answer a few questions about Joan's "journey" to find "love." Today, Jesse shares his thoughts via email about Joan's cocktail party confession, Charles L.'s heartbreaking conversation with Guy, and more.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: The men were all feeling sleep-deprived this week, so Gary and Charles L. stocked up on some sleep aids — melatonin, ear plugs, etc. — at the drugstore. Were the Golden gentlemen able to get some more shut-eye as a result?

JESSE PALMER: The sleep aids may have helped, but I’m not sure there is any known cure for Gregg’s snoring.

I was absolutely leveled by Charles L.'s conversation with Guy about his wife's sudden death from a brain aneurysm. What went through your mind when you first saw it?

I can’t even begin to imagine what that experience must have been like. I was already a big Charles L. fan, but hearing his story made me root for him even more.

Guy bares all on 'The Golden Bachelorette'

Speaking of Guy, did you ever think that you'd see the Bachelor franchise's patented Black Box of Shame™ on The Golden Bachelorette?

I really thought the Black Box of Shame™ was reserved solely for Bachelor in Paradise, but Guy has proven me wrong.

Joan's honesty about her feelings, and that she might not ever be "100 percent" ready for a new love after her husband's death, really resonated with the guys. Why do you think it was so important for her to share those concerns with the men?

I never want to speak on behalf of Joan, but I think it was important to her to show the men a more vulnerable side because she knew that many of the men were already doing so with her. I believe Joan wanted to be honest with the men about her feelings throughout her journey, and the men really appreciated that.

Finally, the guys really went hard at the kickball game. Who would you say was the MVP, and why?

The MVP could have easily gone to four or five of the men; they all really left it all out on the field that day. Gary made a couple of UNBELIEVABLE catches throughout the match and showed up time and time again for his team. He was a standout player in my eyes!

The Golden Bachelorette airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
