Yahoo Lifestyle After Going Viral For Attending His Own Lookalike Competition, Timothée Chalamet Privately Offered To Pay The Organizer’s $500 Fine
Back in October, Timothée Chalamet went viral after he was spotted attending his own lookalike competition at Washington Square Park in New York City.
The whole thing had been organized by Anthony Po, and a $50 cash prize was up for grabs for the most convincing Timmy dupe.
A 21-year-old Staten Island resident called Miles Mitchell ended up being crowned the winner after he dressed up as Timothée in his Wonka era, and reportedly tossed candy into the crowd.
But otherwise, things were pretty chaotic; police intervened and dispersed the crowd before fining Anthony $500 for having an “unpermitted costume contest.” As if that wasn’t enough, one Timothée ended up being taken away in handcuffs.
Through all of this, the real Timmy infiltrated the event, with Variety writing: “Chalamet snuck his way through the packed mob, hiding behind a black mask and baseball hat, before sneaking up on two doppelgängers posing for photos.”
“Once he got to the middle, he took off his mask for the big reveal as shrieks quickly erupted across the park,” the report added.
Unfortunately, neither organizer Anthony nor winner Miles managed to meet the Oscar-nominated actor IRL, but 23-year-old Anthony has now revealed that the star’s team did reach out to him with a pretty generous offer.
Speaking to People, Anthony said that after news of his $500 fine got out, Timothée — through his reps — offered to pay it for him while heaping praise on the event as a whole.
“They offered to pay the ticket, which is truly funny,” he explained. "They basically [said] like, 'We thought it was awesome. Thanks so much.’”
Anthony declined the kind offer, with the digital invite app Partiful footing the bill instead.
Anthony also said that Timothée, who came in at around 13th place at his own lookalike competition, would have ranked higher had he stuck around for the whole event.
"I think if he would've stayed for the end of it, maybe I would've given him runner-up or something," he said.
As you’re probably aware, the competition ended up going so viral that it sparked a series of other celebrity lookalike contests across the globe.
