'Gilmore Girls' Actress Reveals What It Was Really Like to Work With Lauren Graham
For those of you who don't know, Scott Patterson has a popular podcast called I Am All In with Scott Patterson. On it, he talks a lot about his time as Luke Dane's on Gilmore Girls. And on occasion, he'll even have some of the show's stars on to discuss behind-the-scenes moments.
Recently, he invited Mädchen Amick, a.k.a. Sherry Tinsdale on, and the two revealed a lot of fun facts for fans. One of the biggest was the Mädchen, who has also starred in Twin Peaks and Riverdale, was actually almost cast as Lorelai Gilmore!
"Is it true what I hear that you were Amy's [Sherman-Palladino] first choice for Lorelai?" Scott asked Mädchen, who revealed that she wasn't sure if she was the creator's first choice, but she definitely made it far in the audition process for the role, and it ultimately didn't work out. "The big feedback that kept coming back was, 'we don't believe that she's old enough to have a daughter that age — she doesn't look old enough.' And Amy was saying, 'but that's a whole point of the show, that they like sisters,'" Mädchen revealed.
As fans know, we get to see Mädchen on the show for the first time in season 2, episode 14, where we're introduced to her as Christopher's girlfriend, Sherry. She ultimately is only in three episodes, but even during that short period, Mädchen said it was a joy working with Lauren Graham.
"She was very gracious — really great," Mädchen said. "It's very hard to come on as a guest star onto a show, and people are already rolling, they already have their rhythm, they already know each other. You know, it's like the new kid in school. You're just like, hi. And she was very, very gracious, very welcoming — wanted to make sure that I felt comfortable."
And as far as not landing the Lorelai role? There's no hard feelings. "I think it was really suited for Lauren Graham," she said. "I think she handled the cadence so naturally, you didn't question that it wasn't just how she existed naturally. I think she was really good at that."
