General Hospital actor Johnny Wactor died on Sat., May 25 in Los Angeles, according to multiple media outlets. He was 37.

Wactor was near his car with a coworker early Saturday morning when he noticed three individuals fiddling with the vehicle, Wactor’s mother told TMZ on Sun., May 26. Wactor was shot before the three people fled the scene, she said.

Earlier Saturday, Los Angeles police reported that an individual was fatally shot after three people were seen “removing property” from a location in downtown Los Angeles, according to local news station KTLA. Wactor’s brother told the station that the actor was the person who had been shot in what was reportedly believed to be an attempted catalytic converter theft.

After the incident occurred early Saturday, police arrived at the scene, which was described as an area near Pico Boulevard and Hope Street, at about 3:25 a.m. Wactor was taken to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries.

As of Sunday evening, police had not located the three suspects, according to KTLA.

Wactor played Brando Corbin on the long-running ABC soap opera from 2020 to 2022. His first major role was in 2007, when he appeared in the Lifetime series Army Wives. He gained several acting credits in the years that followed, including on shows like Westworld and Criminal Minds.

Wactor was remembered as a “spectacular human being” in a statement his agent, David Shaul, shared with Variety. In addition to being a “talented actor,” Wactor was “a real moral example to everyone who knew him,” Shaul said.

“Our time with Johnny was a privilege we would wish on everyone,” Shaul told the magazine. “He would literally give you the shirt off his back. After over a decade together, he will leave a hole in our hearts forever.”
