New Game-Changing Skittles Collab Has Fans Racing to Try It
Fun fact: my very first job was helping one of my dad’s friends sell Italian ice at track meets. I only did it a handful of times, but if you asked me today to trade it all for a carefree life without bills, existential crises and unlimited Italian ice, I’d give it away in a heartbeat—provided I get to keep all the things I’ve worked so hard for, of course. Dreams of grandeur aside, Italian ice will always have a special place in my heart, and whenever I’m in the mood for a high-quality scoop or two, there’s no better place to go than Rita’s.

With over 570 locations across the United States, primarily in the mid-Atlantic, Rita’s has become a trailblazer, being one of the few Italian ice-focused dessert shops on the market today. Beyond their physical storefronts, you can also find Rita’s in the freezer section of the grocery store, although nothing can compare to a hand-dipped scoop of one of their made fresh daily flavors. From watermelon Sour Patch Kids to banana and even peanut butter and jelly, Rita’s isn’t one to shy away from a game-changing flavor upgrade.
In fact, their latest limited-edition flavor collab is one we never saw coming, and with St. Patrick’s Day on the horizon, it’s got us feeling luckier than ever. According to snack authority @markie_devo, the fan-favorite dessert shop just teamed up with Skittles to create a limited-time Skittles Italian Ice flavor that incorporates all the fruity goodness of Skittles into one easy-to-enjoy treat. Officially launching on March 17 to celebrate St. Paddy’s Day, the chain will also offer crunchy Skittles POP’d as a topping add-on for any of their signature creations.

The technicolor fun doesn’t stop there, though. In addition to launching this veritable pot of rainbow-flavored gold, the dessert parlor will also be giving away free 6-ounce Italian ice scoops on March 20 to coincide with the official first day of spring.
Judging by the comments, the response seems to be a mixed bag, with some saying, “Sigh. Enough is enough with these dang freeze dried Skittles ☠️☠️☠️” while others commented, “Sounds so fun 🤩”
Personally, I’ll be in line to taste the rainbow for myself and will also find my way back on March 20 for a free scoop. Maybe we’ll just pack everything up and move into a Rita’s. That sounds like the life.
