Furious viewers slam 'giant garbage bag' on Restoration Australia
We turn to home renovation and restoration shows to be inspired and often blown away. But this ‘transformation’ of an old gas supply facility on Restoration Australia has left viewers completely flabbergasted.
The old warehouse building located in the heart of North Melbourne held so much potential, and yet viewers couldn’t hide their disbelief at what the huge space was transformed into.
From calling the restoration “impractical” and “ugly”, many people were perplexed by the missed opportunity to honour the building’s heritage features.
Prior to the restoration the couple highlighted the fact they could be spending a large amount of rent for a “tiny apartment in the city”.
And yet viewers then mused that they’ve still only ended up with one “tiny bedroom”.
So they took a huge building and turned it into a one bed room apartment (with a really tiny bedroom) with no view & some rocks out the back? #RestorationAustralia

Not to mention the bedroom was hidden within something viewers called a “giant garbage bag”.
Looks like a giant garbage bag draped over their bedroom. Disgrace. #RestorationAustralia

Twitter was alight with reactions after the show aired.
What a horrendously impractical and ugly space #restorationaustralia

It pains me to see the opportunity to restore and re-use such a beautiful building squandered. The architects treated this as an experiment and it was a failure. A one bedroom apartment with multiple unusable spaces! Heritage Victoria has let one slip here #RestorationAustralia

I am LIVING for the Twitter outrage over #RestorationAustralia. Yes! Let’s all get furious at the replacement of beautiful old architecture with ugly modern architectural overreach! This is amazing!
