'Frasier' Reboot Premiere Date Revealed Hours After Series Picked Up Three Emmy Noms

If February, fans of the Frasier reboot got the news they've been waiting to hear: The series will return to Paramount+ for Season 2.

Production officially began in May for Season 2 the reboot that just picked up three Emmy nominations for its pilot season. And now we know the premiere date: Sept. 19.

The Season 2 renewal was not surprising. The Frasier reboot was a hit with fans who had been leery of another retread of a classic series—especially with only one member of the original cast returning.

One of the biggest surprises for Season 2 will be a call in appearance from legendary comedian Carole Burnett. Her guest spot was announced at Paramount's presentation to journalists at the Television Critics Association panel. No word yet on exactly how that fits into the upcoming season's plot.

Burnett joins a lengthy roster of guests stars, including several stalwarts from the original series. See the full list below.

Frasier is a love story, and I am very happy we will be allowed to continue it. I’m delighted that our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ are on board for another season, and I can’t wait for the fans to see what we have in store,” said Kelsey Grammer, when the renewal was announced.

Here's everything we know so far, including casting updates.

Kelsey Grammer's real-life daughter has joined the cast as Roz's on-screen daughter, Alice. According to a character description (via Variety), Alice is "now in her late twenties, friendly, outgoing [and has] inherited more than some of her mother Roz’s free-spirited ways. Having just moved to Providence to study architecture, Alice is eager to catch up with Frasier’s son Freddy—and complicate whatever romantic plans he may have."

Jack Cutmore-Scott

Jack Cutmore-Scott stars as Freddy Crane, Frasier's son, who shunned academia to work as a firefighter.

Nicholas Lyndhurst

Nicholas Lyndhurst stars as Alan, Frasier Crane's college buddy turned university professor. He previously starred with Kelsey Grammer in a London production of The Man From La Mancha.

Toks Olagundoye

Toks Olagundoye stars as Olivia, head of the university's psychology department. She recruited Frasier to Harvard to boost interest in her department—and try to one-up her competitive sister at Yale.

Jess Salguerio

Jess Salguerio is Freddy's roommate turned neighbor. Her character Eve is described as “spontaneous, outgoing and bursting with creative energy whether it was asked for or not. With an innate ability to connect with both Frasier and Freddy, Eve is a critical bridge between father and son as they attempt to reconcile.”

Anders Keith

Anders Keith stars as Frasier's nephew, David, the awkward son of Niles Crane and Daphne Moon. "Frasier’s nephew David has Niles’ intelligence, Daphne’s smile, and neither of their polish. David’s unearned confidence may confuse some, but Frasier has a fondness for his nephew’s earnest enthusiasm.”

Peri Gilpin as Roz Doyle

Frasier's longtime producer Roz Doyle returned for one episode of Season 1 and will return in a recurring guest role in Season 2.

Bebe Neuwirth as Lilith

Bebe Neuwirth reprised her role as Frasier Crane's ex-wife, the cold-as-ice Lilith, but not as a series regular. In Season 1, Lilith showed up at Freddy's birthday party and went head to head with Frasier in a competition for their son's attention. A classic Lilith-and-Frasier showdown. No word yet on whether she'll return for Season 2.

Will David Hyde Pierce return to Frasier?

David Hyde Pierce's Niles skipped Season 1 of the Frasier reboot. No word yet on whether he'll join the cast in Season 2 although the door appears to be open.

“If he wants to come back, it'd be great,” Grammer told Parade on the SCAD red carpet in early February. "Maybe we'll find a spot that would make him feel comfortable, as his son's on the show, you know ... it would make sense that [Niles and Daphne, played by Jane Leeves] would visit. It'd be really exciting. It'd be fun to have them come around.”

Edward Hibbert (Gil Chesterton)

Hibbert will return as the over-the-top food critic who hosted Restaurant Beat on KACL in 29 episodes of the OG show.

“Dan Butler and Edward Hibbert have made an indelible contribution to television, and I am overjoyed to welcome them back to ‘Frasier’ and for the opportunity to work together once again,” Grammer said in a statement.

John Mahoney (Martin Crane)

Sadly, John Mahoney died at age 77 on Feb. 4, 2018, so, obviously, he will not take part in Season 2 of the reboot.
