What are the best and easiest Mexican recipes you think anyone can try at home?

We just ran a cooking demo as part of Sydney Good Food Month and some of the recipes we showed then are good examples of what people can try at home that are suitably impressive while being simple and tasty. Things like homemade guac, tomato chipotle salsa, beautiful marinades for a variety of different meats to add a Mexican kick and of course tacos.

Why do you think Australia's love of Mexican food is continuously growing?

People are increasingly choosing the more convenient and casual dining experience and that’s a great fit for the style of Mexican cuisine. Australia's tastes have been changing so much since we first launched 9 years ago. They want more sophisticated menu items in more appealing surroundings. They're looking for an experience, provenance and customisation over mass-production. Our menu offers that selection, so now we're seeing a big rise in in the sales of healthier items such as our brown rice burrito bowl.

Where is the best place in Australia to get Mexican food?

Guzman y Gomez of course but if for any reason you can’t make it in to one of our taquerias then I think the guys at Barrio Chino in Sydney’s Kings Cross do a good job. For anyone heading to Mexico then a personal favourite of mine is La Guerrerense that is in Ensenada. Back home in LA, Pez Cantina is only a year or so old and doing some great Mexican food. You can get every type of Mexican in LA and it’s somewhere we’re constantly looking at for trends and potential new dishes to bring over here.

What would you say to someone who has never tried Mexican food?

There are common misconceptions about Mexican food not being healthy or particularly fresh, so we’re helping educate people who possibly wouldn't consider GYG an option right now. We don't want them to miss out.
Once you've tried authentic Mexican food, you'll crave it.

Guzman y Gomez is celebrating the Mexican festival Day of the Dead by calling on fans who can handle the heat to take part in its “Day of the Deadly Sauces” challenge. The hot sauces will be available to try for free at all GYG stores in Australia today for today only.
