A young, budding MasterChef contestant has caused way too much heat in the kitchen with a sexist remark.

Victor Beltrán, one of the stars of Spain’s Junior MasterChef, dropped the clanger in front of 3.2 million viewers.

The 12-year-old stated girls were genetically better at cleaning than boys after being asked to wipe down the stoves, The Guardian reports.

“My goodness, I’m surrounded by girls, and girls already know how to clean because of genetics,” he said.

Judge Pepe Rodríguez then ordered Victor to clean the whole kitchen on his own, much to the delight of the other contestants.

Speaking to the camera afterwards, Victor kept digging himself a deeper hole, when he said: “I wanted to say that girls know better how to clean than boys. In my point of view, that’s just how it is.”

Victor’s mother, Felicidad, who has insisted she stresses equality to her children and the household chores are shared at home, jumped to her son’s defence.

She said it was the first time her son had ever made a sexist comment and he said it when he was “under a lot of pressure and not aware of what he was saying”.

Victor has left a lot of viewers with food for thought who have lit up social media discussing his comments.
