Felicity Jones and her husband, filmmaker Charles Guard, have worked on-screen together.

The actress, known for her roles in films like The Theory of Everything and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, has been married to the British director since 2018. Jones and Guard started dating three years prior and confirmed their engagement in 2017.

Around the time her relationship with Guard began, The Brutalist actress expressed her desire for a deep romantic connection, saying in a 2014 interview with The Telegraph, "I am definitely romantic and I love romantic stories — that's why I keep making romantic movies."

She added, "It's funny how seeing a love story never gets boring because it's the dream, isn't it? It's the dream to have a true connection with another human being."

In 2020, Jones and Guard welcomed their first child, a baby boy, marking the beginning of their journey as parents. The Golden Globe nominee gave birth at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which she admitted to The Times was “pretty scary.” The couple expanded their family once again in 2022 with the arrival of a baby girl.

Guard is a British filmmaker known for his work as part of a directing duo with his brother Thomas, aptly called the Guard Brothers. The siblings began their collaborative efforts during their time at university, where they directed their first short film, One Colour White.

In 2009, the Guard Brothers made their feature-length directorial debut with The Uninvited. Continuing their collaborative efforts, Guard and his brother directed Dead Shot, a revenge thriller set in 1970s London.

The film, released in 2023, starred Aml Ameen and Colin Morgan, with Jones also featured in the cast.

Guard and Jones had the chance to collaborate professionally on his 2023 film Dead Shot. Jones played Catherine in the revenge thriller, a pivotal character in the movie.

In an interview with Collider, Guard expressed how lucky he felt to have his wife involved in the project. “We were incredibly fortunate, when she expressed an interest in the film and in what we were working on,” he said. Initially, Jones joined the project as an executive producer, working through her company Piecrust Pictures alongside her brother, Alex Jones.

Guard spoke about the importance of developing Jones’ character, Catherine, in a way that resonated with the film's narrative, even though the story primarily focused on its two male leads. “It was amazing to be able to discuss the character of Catherine and how we could get as much as we could from her,” he explained to the outlet of working out Jones' character with the actress.

They married in 2018

Jones and Guard exchanged vows on June 30, 2018, in a private ceremony at Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire, England. The couple, who began dating around 2015, celebrated their union surrounded by close family and friends, including notable guests such as Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hanks.

Jones wore an elegant custom-made Erdem couture gown featuring bone corset detailing, a ruffled neck and a jeweled veil, per Vanity Fair. She also chose to do her own makeup for the wedding.

Jones and Guard's nuptials followed the confirmation of their engagement in May 2017, after two years of dating.

Jones and Guard welcomed their first child, a son, in April 2020, following the December 2019 announcement of her pregnancy. In a December 2024 interview with PEOPLE, Jones revealed that they had welcomed a second child, a girl, in 2022.

The On the Basis of Sex actress previously opened up about adjusting to motherhood after the birth of her first child. She revealed to The Times that "Parenting is just a rollercoaster of fatigue,” before noting that it sometimes feels as if you're "celebrating that you have got through each day at about 7:05 p.m., and then realizing you have to live your entire life between the hours of 7 and 10:30!"

He won an award at the Cannes Film Festival

According to Movie Maker, Guard attended Cambridge University. During this time, he started his collaboration — the Guard Brothers — with his brother Thomas.

Their early projects included a trilogy of short films about chance encounters in London, starring Lena Headey. One of these films, Inside-Out, featured Simon McBurney and won best British short at the BBC Short Film Festival.

Another, Round About Five, included performances by Martin Freeman and Jodhi May, and went on to win the Kodak Young Filmmaker Award at Cannes.

Guard’s father is a director

Filmmaking apparently runs in the family, as Guard's father, Howard Guard, is a distinguished British director renowned for his work in documentaries and commercials.

His work includes the films A County at War: Life on the Home Front in Hertfordshire, Inside Eton and Bauhaus: She's in Parties. Howard's career in the creative arts seemingly influenced his two sons, inspiring them to pursue filmmaking themselves.

In addition to his work in feature films, Guard has an extensive background in directing commercials. Alongside Thomas, he has helmed campaigns for major brands such as Xbox, PlayStation, Nike, Stella Artois and Toyota, to name a few.

Notably, their 2013 Super Bowl advertisement for Audi, titled "Prom," was ranked among the most popular on the USA Today Ad Meter.

Per Shots News, after focusing on their feature film Dead Shot, the Guard Brothers returned to the advertising industry, signing with the production company Merman for representation in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
