The anthology series is based on the BBC British show created by Jimmy McGovern, and each episode tells the story of a trial and crime from the perspective of the defendant. All details about season 2 characters and stories have not yet been revealed.

This is not the first time the Emmy-winning couple, who have been married since 1997, have appeared together onscreen. They previously starred in the 2017 film Krystal, which Macy also directed, as well as the film The Water Engine and a TV adaptation of the 1938 classic A Slight Case of Murder.

But the spouses' casting in Accused is especially notable given Huffman's past legal battles during the infamous college admissions scandal, in which the Desperate Housewives actress paid $15,000 to falsify her daughter's SAT scores in 2017. She was arrested over the incident in 2019. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 14 days in jail, but only spent 11 days behind bars in addition to paying a $30,000 fine. Macy, meanwhile, was not charged.

"It felt like I had to give my daughter a chance at a future, so it was sort of like my daughter’s future, which meant I had to break the law," Huffman said in her first interview about the criminal affair. She added that, on the day of the exam, she considered turning her car around and driving her daughter home instead of to the testing location, but instead endured personal "shame" and went through with it anyway.

Huffman also recounted being arrested and how the F.B.I. raided her home and apprehended her at gunpoint. "They put my hands behind my back and handcuffed me, and I asked if I could get dressed, and I thought it was a hoax," she remembered. "I literally turned to one of the FBI people in a flak jacket and a gun and I went, 'Is this a joke?'"

Huffman returned to acting with a role on The Good Doctor and made her U.K. stage debut in a revival of Taylor Mac’s Hir. She is also set to star on the second season of the Criminal Minds spinoff, Criminal Minds: Evolution. Macy, meanwhile, is best known for his roles on Shameless, ER, and Fargo.

Cannon is best known for hosting shows including The Masked Singer, Wild 'n Out, and America's Got Talent. He also acted on The Nick Cannon Show, All That, Drumline, Love Don't Cost a Thing, and The Misfits.
