Wear this with that: your winter style guide

To help you stand out in the chill, here’s the head’s up on what to expect on the fashion beat this winter season.

So hot right now

Shades of grey:

Grey is the new black. For a casual look, layer different shades and textures together. Whether it’s a simple knitted cardigan paired with a white shirt and charcoal pants, it can be dressed up or down with heels or boots to flip between the office and stepping out for after work drinks.

Jewel tones:

Baby, its cold outside. When the sky is looking a little greyer than you’d prefer, it’s important to bring a splash of colour into our outfit. Jewel colours such as fuchsia, emerald and cobalt are in this season. Ruby red lips are always a hot winner, too.

Denim:

She’s been trying for a while, and Kim Kardashian has finally succeeded in bringing double denim back. Team different denim tones together to avoid looking a little too ‘90’s. Speaking of the ‘90’s, avoid the neon headband and scrunch socks and instead team your outfit with a slim-line belt and some simple heels.

Classics you should wear this season

Jeans:

The staple for every woman’s wardrobe is a good pair of jeans, or ten. Pick a style that flatters your body shape; if you’re a pear, bootleg jeans are the go, and for the hourglass figures try skinny or straight jeans.

Knits:

Some things don’t go out of style, like a plump knitted cardigan or sweater. Pull on skinny blue jeans with a knee-length, button-up knit cardigan in camel or dark brown, and pair them with some killer back pump heels; Timeless.

Trench Coats:

Whether it’s light grey, olive or a sophisticated charcoal, the trench coat can add a touch of class to your wardrobe. Team it with tight black pants, jeans, and some mid-calf black boots and you're set for the stylish street.

Fitted jackets:

If you’re looking to accentuate your waist, you can’t go wrong with a fitted coat. Whether it’s a cool blazer or figure-hugging jacket, pulled together with a pencil skirt or skinny jeans, it’s a look that suits any outing. Wear it to your next after-work shopping trip or a weekend café date with the girls.

Scarves:

If there’s one definitive winter accessory, it's the humble scarf. The best thing is, it comes in every conceivable size, colour and pattern you could imagine - a floral print, tartan classic or a beautiful cream knit just to name a few. You can tell more about a person’s personality from what scarf they’re wearing than you can from the rest of their outfit.

General Tips

Mix and match

Pick items you can wear in different combinations to create a new look and turn 5 outfits into 15.

Flatter your figure

If you’re straight up and down, select items that create the illusion of a waist. If you’re an hourglass, take a look at double button jackets and pencil skirts.

Bring on the bling

Winter fashion is usually quite simple, so dress it up with statement necklaces and chandelier earrings.
