Designer Accuses Alexander McQueen Of Ripping Off Wedding Dress

Five years after the Duke and Duchess tied the knot, a fashion designer is claiming the house of Alexander McQueen copied her wedding dress design.

Christine Kendall, who runs a small studio in London, has filed a lawsuit against the fashion label, accusing it of being in breach of copyright.

“Proceedings have been issued because our client is certain that her company’s design was unfairly taken and copied,” said Kendall’s lawyer.

"This claim is not against the duchess and there is no allegation of wrongdoing against the palace."

There is however, a pretty severe claim against Alexander McQueen, and in particular its popular creative director, Sarah Burton, who originally came up with the dress design.

A spokesperson for the label has utterly rebutted the claims though, saying the everyone at Alexander McQueen is ‘baffled’ about it.

"Christine Kendall first approached us at Alexander McQueen almost four years ago, when we were clear with her that any suggestion Sarah Burton’s design of the royal wedding dress was copied from her designs was nonsense.

"Sarah Burton never saw any of Ms Kendall’s designs or sketches and did not know of Ms Kendall before Ms Kendall got in touch with us - some 13 months after the wedding.

"We do not know why Ms Kendall has raised this again, but there are no ifs, buts or maybes here: this claim is ridiculous."

Considering Kendall didn’t bring her first claim up for over a year afterwards, and there is so far zero proof that Burton copied anything, we have to wonder if this is a case of a small-time designer simply trying to get her name in the papers. Mission accomplished.
