Model Says Her Agent Told Her To Stop Eating

Polish model Zuzanna Buchwald has slammed the modelling industry for its impossible body image standards.

In an emotional video for The Daily Dot, Buchwald explained how the constant pressure to remain a certain size had taken its toll on her health, leading to a four-year battle with anorexia.

“My agents told me to stop exercising and stop eating,” said Buchwald. “On my own and feeling alone in a foreign country, the pressure quickly developed into an eating disorder that I battled for almost four years. Ironically, I was most admired by my ‪‎agents and ‪designers when I was at my unhealthiest and unhappiest. It was then that I worked the most."

Buchwald explained that being a constant size 0-2 was the unspoken key to success in the industry, a feat she believes is very difficult to achieve.

"Young models learn about it the hard way: If an agency catches the smallest weight gain, you are measured, told to lose weight immediately, and reprimanded,” she said.

Buchwald struggled to hold back tears as she explained that she thought it was necessary to speak out in order to convey the message to young girls that being body shamed is not ok.

“I would like to tell young girls that are just starting out not to listen to other people about the body that’s theirs. What we see in the mirror when we’re healthy is the right image.”

Buchwald then called for the fashion industry to stop employing girls under a certain weight in an effort to convey a more realistic image to women everywhere.

“Please replace the sick images of overly skinny girls with an image of health, wellness and beauty that comes from within,” Buchwald implored.

This certainly isn’t the first time a model has spoken out about the pressure to remain scarily thin in the industry.

Earlier this week, Erin Heatherton admitted she had been forced to quit Victoria’s Secret because they asked her to lose weight.

"I got to a point where one night I got home from a workout and I remember staring at my food and thinking maybe I should just not eat," she said.

"I realised I couldn't go out into the world - parading my body and myself in front of all these women who look up to me - and tell them that this is easy and simple and everyone can do this."

The question on everyone’s lips now is: when will the modelling industry realise it's losing all the beautiful girls due to their impossible standards?
