There’s no doubt Catherine Zeta-Jones’ ruby red dress was a showstopper at this year’s Golden Globe Awards.

But rather than garnering fashion appraisal, the 45-year-old’s full-length strapless ball gown has been the butt of jokes on social media.

The Oscar-winner’s choice of dress was compared to the dancing salsa emoji, with memes being tweeted all around the globe.

“Catherine Zeta-Jones was basically the salsa dancer emoji at the #GoldenGlobes - agree?!” wrote Twitter user JustJared.

Awks.

Following the parody, US actress Alexandra Daddario jumped on the bandwagon, posting a picture of herself in her scarlet Armani dress impersonating the dancing emoticon on Twitter, with the caption “Live action emoji”.

It’s not the first time a classic, simple dress has been the source of online mockery.
