Tina Turner has become the oldest Vogue cover star, appearing on Vogue Germany's April cover.

Turner, who is 73, sports a classic midnight blue shirt and vintage trousers on the cover, both by Georgio Armani.

Surprisingly, considering Turner's show biz career spans over 50 years, it's the vivacious grandmother's first ever Vogue cover.

The legendary singer, born Anna Mae Bullock in 1939, released her first recording way back in 1958 under the name 'Little Ann', and went on to become known as Tina Turner in the sixties when she performed with husband Ike in the Ike and Tina Turner Review.

It was after her split from Ike in 1976 that Turner's solo career really took off. 'What's Love Got to Do with it', from her 1984 album 'Private Dancer', became the biggest single of her career, and in 1985 the singer starred alongside Mel Gibson in 'Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome'.

In 1991 her comeback album, Simple the Best, sold 7 million copies worldwide, and the septuagenarian has 8 Grammy Awards to her name.

Turner joins an elite club of mature cover stars.

Silver screen legend Meryl Streep scored her first US Vogue cover at age 62, while in 2004 Priscilla Presley, then 59, graced the cover of Vogue alongside her daughter Lisa-Marie and granddaughter Riley.

In 1998, Hillary Clinton was 51 when she appeared on the cover of Vogue (and we think it's high time she bagged her second cover!).
