Finally! Zara arrives in Australia

The highly anticipated Spanish fashion chain opened its doors to media today to have a sneak peek around the flagship store, which officially opens to the public tomorrow.

Known for its fast, affordable fashion, items at Zara's three-level establishment will not disappoint. The 1,400 square metre retail outlet is packed with the latest must-have high fashion items as well as everyday essentials.

Standout pieces from the autumn/winter range include a camel coloured cape for $39, a hot pink jacket for $139 and a pleated leather skirt for $159.

The collection has been tailored to suit the Australian market and Southern Hemisphere seasons. Jesus Echevarria, Zara's chief communications officer said: “The Australian spirit is a relaxed way of living so the collection is the first thoughts of our designers who have been studying what they believe will fit in the store here.”

The global fashion powerhouse is famous for translating runway trends in record time and Sydney will be no exception with new stock arriving twice weekly and an exclusive accessories range designer specifically for Australia.

From tomorrow eager shoppers can pick up a pair of on-trend ankle boots for under $150, a pair of basic black pants for $49 and a colourful shift dress for $120.

Since Zara opened in 1975 in Spain it has grown to more than 1,700 stores in 78 countries. Echevarria says the key to the brand’s success is responding to what the customer wants. “We take feedback from the store manager on what is selling best and tweak it to accommodate customer demand.”

Concerned the whole of Sydney will be a walking Zara mannequin? Echevarria assures us this will not be the case as only a certain number of units for each item will be created. “We don’t want everyone dressed the same, it would kill us to think two people would turn up to a party in matching dresses!”

So why has it taken so long for Zara to come to Oz? Location is paramount to the success of Zara worldwide so the popular retailer wanted to find the perfect spot. The prominent position on Sydney CBD’s busy Pitt Street met the brief with a 22-metre facade and six display windows in Westfield's shopping precinct.

Following the debut of the Sydney store, Zara plans to launch a second establishment on Melbourne’s Bourke Street at the end of June with plans for nationwide stores in the near future.

For Sydney shoppers the simple yet elegant store is spacious and easy to navigate, so now all you need to worry about is how you’re going to fight off the other shoppers to snap up Zara’s latest bargains. Let the shopping frenzy begin.
