A Model Honoured David Bowie At The Burberry Menswear Show

The world lost a true artist yesterday and the impact is being felt all over the world, but especially in Britain where David Robert Jones, aka David Bowie, hailed from.

While the tributes continue to pour in via the news and social media, one model took it upon herself to personalise her look while walking in the Burberry Mens’ Show on Monday afternoon during London Fashion Week.

Hayett Belarbi McCarthy wore a beautiful, ‘70s-inspired coat with large gold buttons and red piping with flared navy trousers. And while that was an impressive look, it was the scribble on her hands that is really getting everyone’s attention. She wrote “Bowie” on her palms and flashed them to photographers while making her runway lap at Kensington Gardens.

While Burberry’s CEO & Creative Director Christopher Bailey didn’t sanction this move, the company is fine with it. “We did not know model would do that and were fine with it,” said a rep. “As guests entered the show, all the music was David Bowie.”

After all what else would you expect from a brand that is so deeply entrenched with British history and music? The gesture didn’t feel out of place. Plus, wherever Starman has landed in the cosmos, it’s probably giving him a good chuckle.
