Ashley Graham: 'It's time to put plus-size models on the runway'

Plus-size model Ashley Graham has revealed that she thinks there is a lack of women with curves on fashion runways.

Speaking to Joe Zee, Editor in Chief of Yahoo Style, during New York Fashion Week, the 27-year-old American beauty ripped into designers who failed to employ curvier women, claiming they're usually in too much of a 'hurry' to get their collections out to make bigger-sized clothes.

"It's time to put plus-size models on the runway," the stunner said, to a round of applause from the audience.

"I understand why designers don't put curves on the runway necessarily - I think it's because they're making size zero and size two clothes, they're doing it quick it's like hurry up and get the collection out."

However Graham, who is a size 16, said she can definitely see a big change happening and is hopeful that plus-size models will grace a lot more of this season's runways.

"I really believe that this is the season where things are really going to change," she said.

"I'm a body activist, which means that I'm standing up for curves and for every type of body that's out there and to let everybody know that they are beautiful." she said.

"I truly believe that there's so much emphasis in our world on the body that it just makes you insecure so I'm out there, I'm talking about it, I'm letting young girls know that you are beautiful."

Graham has been one of the most talked about models of 2015 thanks to her spot in this year's Sports Illustrated Swim edition.
