Farmer Wants A Wife's Joe responds to fake farmer rumours.

Video transcript

- We were chatting with Bert and Dustin last week, and we were laughing because there were lots of comments about Bert not being a real farmer. And then I saw the same thing for you. So I was wondering what you thought of the whole thing?

JOE BOBBIN: Yeah. I've talked to Bert about his veggie patch, poor bloke. Yeah. [CHUCKLES] Yeah he probably works the hardest out of all of us. He's got a lot going on and yeah, I think it's pretty unfair about that. Yeah, you know, I've had comments about-- I don't have a farm and I don't this, so I'm just sort of, like, well, I don't know where we filmed it all-- all the cattle work and things like that.

But yeah, you know, I grew up here. You know, I'm part owner alongside my mom and my dad, which is not uncommon for any sort of [CHUCKLES] younger person, you know? I've bought into the farm. I've bought my dad out, and I pay lease to my mom. You know, haven't inherited anything. It's just-- but that's OK. People are entitled to their own opinion.

- I know. And a lot of people are also like, well, yeah-- because I think because they saw that you're a fly in, fly out worker as well. And a lot of people are like, a lot of farmers actually do more than one thing. So--

JOE BOBBIN: Yeah, well, so, you know, like a lot of blokes my age, farmers, things like that, yeah, we weren't sure what we wanted to do when we finished school and stuff. We went out, I became-- I got into construction, did a lot of FIFO when I was in my early 20s which led to the money to be able to buy part of the farm from my parents.

So it was-- so I did that, and then now, I have my own-- I started my own business contracting out. So I contract to other farmers, I contract FIFO sometimes. You know, I've used my skills that I've learnt along the way to be able to do these things. But yeah, my address and my home is here on the farm. And you know, I spend majority of my time here. So [CHUCKLES] yeah. Like everyone-- yeah tries to make it out like, you know, you can't be a real farmer if you have a second income. I don't really understand that. Like most people have a second income this time of the year-- you know, these days.
