Fans hit out at Instagram mum's 'perfect' life after she announces breakup
A fitness star’s breakup has sparked a debate about social media, with people hitting out at her seemingly perfect Instagram life.
Queensland 24-year-old Tammy Hembrow, who has 8.4 million followers online, uploaded a video to her YouTube channel, revealing that she and her fiancé, Reece Hawkins, have decided to go their separate ways.
However, while the majority of her followers were sympathetic and devastated over the breakup, others slammed the unrealistic world of social media and urged people to ‘let this be a lesson’ that it isn’t real life.
“Looks can be deceiving! Everybody thinks they had the perfect life but hey this is what social media is about. Real life is something else,” one follower wrote on a picture of mum-of-two Tammy and her ex.
“Let this be a lesson for you all, people can edit pictures to make an illusion that something is there when in reality it’s not,” another follower started her comment.
“For years Tammy’s life, and relationship in particular, was seen as “goals” everywhere I looked. Everyone needs to stop idolising models online and dreaming they had that life.
“In all due respect to Tammy, it just goes to show that it’s not always how it seems. Making a perfect Instagram of the perfect family doesn’t mean it’s true.”
Taking to her YouTube account over the weekend, Tammy revealed that she didn’t want to go into specifics about why they decided to breakup, but insisted there had been no infidelity involved.
“Obviously, we’re human and we’re not perfect, we have ups and downs like everybody. I don’t want people to think we just gave up. Most people know relationships are very complex,” she said in the video.
Tammy and Reece became parents when they were in their early 20s, after dating for a few weeks.
Now, they are doting mum and dad to two-year-old Wolf and one-year-old Saskia.
“It’s a super hard situation, especially where there are kids involved. Everything is just a million times harder than a regular break up,” she said.
