Lucky Charms originally debuted in 1964, with different oat cereal shapes like bells and clovers combined with tiny marshmallows in several shapes, including hearts and stars. Over 60 years later, it’s taking a big step away from its roots with a celebratory new launch.
Popular food blogger markie_devo shared the news on Jan. 31 that the General Mills cereal is coming out with a new birthday cake flavor, complete with rainbow confetti sprinkles.

The Walmart-exclusive launch features sweetened corn cereal, a departure from the classic oat, but sticks to tradition with the marshmallow shapes that fans love.
The influencer didn’t specify when the product will make its way onto shelves at the retail giant, but according to the Walmart website, a family-sized box of the cereal will sell for $4.93 once it becomes available.
“Wow I need!!!! 😍😍😍,” wrote one fan on Instagram, and others shared the sentiment, commenting that they “need immediately.”
More celebrated the launch, writing, “Yesss just in time for my bday,” and proclaiming that they were “Drooling.”
“This sounds so amazing!” said one commenter, and another felt the same way, though they expressed annoyance at how long it took for the cereal to launch. “Why did it take them too long to do this. I've wanted this for years,” they wrote.
A few fans were not as excited, commenting, “Bummer it's corn cereal only. Not the classic oat/corn lucky charms,” and declaring that it’s “Straight sugar 😂.” A third fan seemed surprised by the pivot away from the oat cereal, writing, “Corn… Didn’t see that coming 😂.”
