Fans Can't Get Enough Of Chiefs Player Carson Steele's Pet Alligator

Some children dream of waking up on Christmas morning and finding an adorable  kitten or puppy underneath their Christmas tree. Chief's fullback Carson Steele received a very different sort of forever friend from Santa when he was in second or third grade, and that forever friend was of the gigantic, carnivorous and reptilian sort.

I still can't figure our how Santa was able to wrap this gift.

Yep, that's right, Steele has a pet alligator he got for Christmas when he was in second or third grade, and according to the player, "So I’ve had him a little while now. He’s in a big aquarium back home,” he added. Home for Steele, and the 4-5 foot long Crocky-J, is Indiana. The running back clarified that Crocky-J is an alligator and not a crocodile but chose the name because he thought it "sounded a little better."

During the Sept. 5 broadcast, announcers noted that Crocky-J weighs over 100 lbs, while sharing a picture of a young Steele holding the baby alligator in his hand.

"Carson told me Crocky-J has his own room at his parents' house in Indiana. But he hopes to bring him here to Kansas City soon," they continued. "He just needs to fill out some exotic animal paperwork."

People on Instagram were pretty excited hearing about Crocky J, and one fan commented, "Are we overlooking he basically named his alligator, crocodile." Haha! He did think it sounded better. Someone else responded, "Why is no one talking about how he taped the croc's mouth so it wouldn't bite?"

Considering alligators have a bite force of around 2,125 pounds per square inch(PSI), which is enough to crush bones and lift a small truck, I think having Crocky J's mouth taped shut may not be a bad idea. But probably the best idea is to send his beloved pet to an alligator sanctuary where it can be, you know, an alligator.

It's Legal to Own an Alligator in Indiana

According to Newstalk1280, it is perfectly legal to own an alligator in Indiana as a pet, as long as you have a wild animal possession permit from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Surprisingly, this permit, which can be obtained from the Division of Fish and Wildlife, also allows people to keep endangered species as pets. However, it is imperative to your eligibility that the animals you possess are acquired legally. Completed applications along with a $10 permit fee and the signature of a licensed veterinarian can simply be mailed to the DNR’s permit coordinator in Indianapolis.

I'm not crazy about the idea of keeping wild animals as pets, but who knows if Crocky J could even survive in the wild after being a domestic alligator for so long. Here's hoping he's happy with the life he's living. At least it's obvious his adad is pretty crazy about him!
