Prospective homebuyers thought they’d found a bargain when they happened upon a new listing in the outer Melbourne suburb of Coolaroo today, but a sneaky detail hidden in the portfolio of photos has raised more eyebrows than offers.

At a glance the single-story brick number looks like peak suburban Australian living - three bedrooms, two bathrooms and depressing concrete patio.

A closer look however, reveals that the property is a rainbow wrapped in a newspaper - the brick exterior hides an interior decoration scheme that leaves the Playboy Mansion for dead.

The outside of the property shows a house unremarkable except for a blatant disregard for its outdoor plants hydration needs.

Step inside however and it’s a feast for the sense, or an affront for the eyes depending on your taste.

A gaudy living room decked out in plush velvet and ruby red hues almost jumps out at the casual viewer, set off by no less than four chandeliers and several ornamental statement pieces.

Not to be outdone, a more casual dining area features a pink themed couch ensemble set off by a merchandise rug of Hootable (of Giggle and Hoot fame).

The pièce de resistance however is the bedroom.

The boudoir is bathed in bright purple hues and features a plush double bed that not only leaves little room for movement, but is also decked out in the same Hubba-Bubba-like shade.

Hilarity online

The rhinestone-in-the-rough has attracted plenty of attention online, with one Facebook group sharing side-splitting commentary on the unusual property.

“I wasn’t expecting that,” one man posted, in a mild embodiment of the general sentiment.

“I would not have expected that from outside,” another concurred.

“Bold choices!” another added.

“They know what they liked and went for it,” one admired.

As one woman pointed out, the interior style embodied one theme above all, particularly in the private quarters.

“That lilac hued bedroom is definitely a boudoir!” she wrote.

It’s not the first time a property’s advertisement has attracted attention beyond that of potential buyers.

Last month a sultry selling tactic turned 42 Chamberlain Rd, Padstow into the scene of a hot and heavy contemporary dance to the hilarity of online users.
