An actress who found fame on popular 90s sitcom Boy Meets World has opened up about why she has now chosen to enter the porn industry.

Maitland Ward, who played Rachel McGuire on the popular sitcom, made the admission to In Touch Weekly where she said her reasons for the decision were largely grounded in a want to explore her self expression.

“I read the script, and I was like, ‘This is really, really well written. This has so many themes in this and just my character is so different than anything I have portrayed before’,” she told the magazine.

"It's just very deep sensuality, and I think that is a really fun way to play an explorer, and I got to do things that I wouldn't have thought in the past. Just these sexual situations that are sort of taboo."

Making the move

In addition to her run on the Disney-owned ABC channel, the 42-year-old also had roles in The Bold and the Beautiful, White Chicks and Home Improvement before making the industry switch.

That move came earlier this year upon signing to adult talent agency—and is now gaining attention ahead of the release of her first feature-length flick, Drive.

"I felt ready. It wasn’t like I was saying, 'Oh, I want to do this all along', but it was like, ‘I need to do this,” she said.

"I really feel that quality stuff and the hot sex stuff can be together, and I really want that."

But despite her eagerness to share the career transition, Maitland was quick to admit the bold move didn’t come without serious consideration, and she now ‘doesn’t give a f***’ about discussing her transition.

“It all started when I was doing cosplay, which I really genuinely love doing and people started giving me attention for it, and I wore sexy outfits,” she said.

"I want to be who I am, and I just think as I have matured too, I am who I am."
