In 2022, Khloé Kardashian became a mom of two.

The 40-year-old star of The Kardashians shares two children with NBA star Tristan Thompson, True Thompson, her daughter born in 2018, and Tatum Thompson, her son born just over two years ago via surrogate. Though Kardashian said in a June 2024 episode of the show that the “door is closed” romantically with Thompson, the pair continues to co-parent their two children together.

Since having her two kids, Kardashian has shared glimpses of their lives together with her 308 million Instagram followers, from sweet candid snaps and selfies to touching birthday tributes. On being a mother, Kardashian has said repeatedly that the experience changed her for the better. "I definitely have more empathy,” she told Cosmopolitan UK in 2021. “And the motivation that having a child gives you ... you want them to be proud of you so badly. That's not just work, but my manners and how I treat people. You just carry yourself in a different way. Or I try to."

Kardashian has also opened up about bonding with her sisters over their shared perspectives on parenting. "We're really hands-on moms,” she told Variety in 2022. “We are very present and active with our kids. Family comes before everything ... It's just who we are. It's what makes us happy. It's what we work hard for, so we can give them certain luxuries and have certain securities. It literally makes life worth living, having kids."

In December 2017, Kardashian took to Instagram to announce her first pregnancy with Thompson. “My greatest dream realized! We are having a baby! I had been waiting and wondering but God had a plan all along,” she wrote in the caption. “He knew what He was doing. I simply had to trust in Him and be patient. I still at times can't believe that our love created life! … . I am so thankful, excited, nervous, eager, overjoyed and scared all in one! But it's the best bundle of feelings I've ever felt in my life!” (Fun fact: Kardashian was pregnant at the same time as her younger half-sister, Kylie Jenner.)

On April 12, 2018, Kardashian gave birth to a baby daughter at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles; she weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces. Four days later, on April 16, the Good American founder announced her daughter’s name on Instagram: “Our little girl, True Thompson, has completely stolen our hearts and we are overwhelmed with LOVE,” she wrote, accompanying a photo of her home filled with pink balloons. “Such a blessing to welcome this angel into the family! Mommy and Daddy loooooove you True!”

About six months after True’s birth, in November 2018, Kardashian opened up on X (formerly Twitter) about her decision to switch from breastfeeding to formula due to stress. “I tried breastfeeding for weeks and weeks!” she wrote. “For me it was so painful but I also was not producing a lot of milk. So I had to pump every time she was napping…I guess due to stress my milk was not coming in. I tried and I just couldn’t give her enough. So I had to go to formula.” (For context, on top of the stress of having a newborn, news broke mere days before True’s birth that Thompson, Kardashian’s then-partner, allegedly cheated on her.)

Since True’s birth, Kardashian has shared her love for her daughter in interviews. In 2019, she told Entertainment Tonight that seeing her daughter’s smiling face was the highlight of being a mom, hands down. “It’s so corny, but it’s just like, no matter how tired you are, it’s complete bliss, no matter what,” she said.

Also, in a 2021 interview with Cosmopolitan UK, she stressed the importance of making time for her daughter: “If I have a crazy work week with more limited time with True, I clear out my weekend,” she said. “Some things are non-negotiable for me. I try and take her to every gymnastics class and I schedule things around her schedule—I live and die by a schedule! Every single day, everything is accounted for and that gives me a sense of peace because there are typically no surprises.”

The Good American founder has also featured her growing daughter on Instagram over the years, from casual selfies to snaps from milestones like her first day of kindergarten or her recent dance recital. In April 2024, they also celebrated her 6th birthday. In a series of photos on her Instagram Story, Kardashian shared a sweet message for True.

"My baby girl is six today," Kardashian wrote, accompanying a photograph of herself and True. "My sweet, silly but serious, sensitive but strong, kind, beautiful, loving little Tutu."

"You changed my life forever and I love every part of who you are,” she continued, alongside a photo of True. “Your smile, your laugh, the sass you get when you dance, your independence (even though that also makes me inside cry lol) the way you love. Love me, love Tatum, love your cousins, love Lovey, love your daddy. You are love. My love.”

In July 2022, a representative for Kardashian confirmed to PEOPLE that she was expecting a second baby with Thompson via surrogate. At the time, a source told the outlet that Kardashian and Thompson were “not back together,” adding that "the baby was conceived via surrogate before it was revealed to Khloe and the public that Tristan was having a baby with someone else in December [2021]."

Later that same month, on July 28, PEOPLE confirmed that Kardashian’s second child had arrived via surrogate at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. At the time, she had yet to decide on a name for her son. he was originally listed as “Baby Kardashian” on his birth certificate. (The following year, in 2023, a Los Angeles county judge granted Kardashian’s petition to legally change her son’s name to Tatum Thompson.)

On a May 2024 episode of the SHE MD Podcast, Kardashian explained that she didn’t name her son, even within her family unit, for about eight months. "It was a long time, and I'm embarrassed to say that,” she said, explaining that she had a trial period of testing out different names; she added that deciding on a name for Tatum may have been more difficult because she used a surrogate instead of carrying him.

In the season 2 premiere of The Kardashians in September 2022, the 40-year-old opened up about welcoming Tatum: "I am so grateful [for my son],” she said in a confessional. “It's such a beautiful gift that we're able to have."

She also went on to say that the experience of preparing to welcome her second child was darkened by Thompson’s paternity scandal. "Ever since December, it's been this dark cloud looming over me. Every single day, I've been feeling depressed and sad,” she said, before pivoting to a more positive note.

“Now that my son is here, I get to move on, and I get to enjoy,” she continued. “It's almost like I get to close that chapter and be done with this trauma and put it behind me. Now I finally get to start the healing process. Now I get to start enjoying my life with two kids in it and figuring this out. This is gonna be day one, and this is gonna be the start of something positive, and happy and beautiful.”

Since his birth, Kardashian has shared adorable snaps of Tatum (and his sister True) on Instagram. In July 2023, they celebrated his first birthday with a space-themed party. Kardashian also commemorated the moment with an Instagram post: “I am a firm believer in that God gives you what you need and I needed you,” she wrote in the caption. “God knew my heart needed you. I needed your sweet and precious Smile. I needed your angelic spirit. I needed a love only you could give me. I needed my son.”

“I am so proud to be your mommy,” she continued. “So proud of the love and laughter we have in our house. So proud of your beautiful, gentle, loving, infectious spirit. You light up every single room. There’s no denying that Everyone smiles when they look at you! Especially True. She is so proud to call you hers. Tatum, You have changed mine and True’s lives forever. We both needed you.”
