Eva Longoria has taken a stand against double standards in Hollywood, making a powerful statement on the red carpet of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
The 48-year-old actress and director turned heads as she arrived in Cannes wearing a stunning sheer Elie Saab gown, showcasing her confidence and leaving little to the imagination.
Stepping onto the red carpet of The Old Oak at the Palais des Festivals, Longoria dazzled in a nude haute couture gown from Saab's Spring/Summer 2023 collection, adorned with an exquisite array of sparkling beads and intricate embroidery.
The striking look featured a sheer skirt, dramatic train, and strategically placed cut-outs that accentuated Longoria's waist.
Longoria's red carpet look conceals a powerful message
With her hair styled in an elegant updo and glittery eye makeup, Eva effortlessly commanded attention. But her red carpet appearance was not just about glamour and fashion; it carried a deeper message.
During her talk at the Kering Women in Motion event, Eva fearlessly addressed the double standards prevalent in the film industry. Reflecting on her directorial debut, Flamin' Hot, she shed light on the disparities between men and women, highlighting the higher stakes faced by female filmmakers.
"The problem is if this movie fails, people go, 'Oh Latino stories don't work...female directors really don't cut it.' We don't get a lot of at-bats," Longoria expressed passionately, as reported by Variety.
"A white male can direct a $200 million film, fail and get another one. That’s the problem. I get one at-bat, one chance, work twice as hard, twice as fast, twice as cheap.”
Yet, Longoria remained undeterred by these challenges. In fact, she revealed that they only fuelled her determination to succeed. The Cannes Film Festival provided a platform for her to amplify her voice and champion equality within the industry.
Apart from her impactful red carpet appearance, Longoria has been actively engaged in various festival events. Notably, she graced the amfAR Cannes Gala 2023, standing alongside more than 80 other prominent stars as they united to support a worthy cause.
